Thanks to its salubrious climate, the sanctuary can be visited almost throughout the year. The best season to sight wildlife is between November and June, while the forests are lush green after the monsoons from July to October.

The forest ranges covering BR Hills and beyond into Sathyamangalam are favourite haunts of Veerappan, the legendary forest brigand. Although he has never been known to harm tourists, some travel restrictions may occasionally be imposed by the police task force which keeps looking for him (you may check with Jungle Lodges when you book). The search has been going on for over two decades, so this is almost a part of the landscape now, and nothing new for tourists to worry about.

A day's stay at the camp starts with lunch on the first day and ends after breakfast on the second. The recommended stay is three days, as this will give you time to explore nearby sightseeing spots and also soak in the tranquil atmosphere fully. At the minimum, plan a two-day stay, otherwise you will be leaving the place almost soon after you unpack.
