Mudumalai is around 235 kms by road from Bangalore,
past the palace city of Mysore (90 kms from Mysore). The drive from
Mysore takes you past the temple town of Nanjangud and Bandipur
wild life sanctuary. The road is very good (except for a short stretch
after Nanjangud) making this an enjoyable drive.

takes an hour longer. |

rail station at the foot hills of the mountains. The rail road from
Mettupalayam to Ooty is the steepest railway line in the world and
the ride is a truly fascinating experience which has been extensively
chronicled on BBC. You will be treated to some breathtaking views
as this tiny train puffs up the steep mountain side, pulled by two
engines and supported by a unique tooth and saw arrangement on the
rails. |

| Hiring
Taxis |
| |
|
|
|
 |
Taxis
at airports and railway stations normally run on pre-fixed rates.
One-way fares can be expensive; it may be better to hire a taxi
from a regular taxi operator in the town and retain it for the duration
of your stay. This can normally be organised through your hotel.
|
| |
|
|
|
 |
If
you need cars with seat belts (highly recommended), please do not
hire an Ambassador car as these normally do not have seat belts.
Ask for one of the modern cars like Tata Indica, Maruti Esteem or
Hyundai Accent.
|
| |
|
|
|
 |
If
you are a foreigner, it is strongly recommended that you do not
drive in India. The driving conditions are very different from those
in advanced countries and taxis are very affordable (around USD
25 per day). |
